Ridder is located in the north-east of Kazakhstan, at the foot of the Ivanovo Ridge (Altai Mountains), in the intermountain depression at an altitude of 700 to 900 meters above sea level. It is a land of contrasts: formidable raging rivers and majestic dense green forests, wonderful mirror lakes and colourful meadow valleys.
The climate is sharply continental, in summer the thermometer rises to 35.4 degrees Celsius, and in winter it falls to minus 41.3 degrees Celsius.
The rivers Gromatukha, Tikhaya, Bystrukha, Zhuravlikha and Filippovka merge to form the Ulba River. If you are full of energy and looking for exciting adventures, it is possible to go down on rafting on the rivers White and Black Uba.
The West Altai State Natural Reserve (ZAGPZ) is classified as the highest category of "Specially Protected Natural Areas". According to its natural and climatic conditions, the reserve reflects all the specific features of the South Siberian taiga. Flora is represented by 880 species, of which 96 are rare and in need of special protection, including 27 are listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan. The fauna includes 150 species of birds, 55 species of mammals and about 10 thousand species of invertebrates, including 8 species are listed in the Red Book.
