Ugam is an ideal starting point to discover the mountains of Western Tien Shan and their rich flora and fauna.
Ugam region is a mountainous area, which is the spurs of the Western Tien Shan. Here unique natural complexes are combined with historical monuments of the medieval culture of the Great Silk Road.
The region is inhabited by species of animals and plants listed in the Red Book of Kazakhstan, such as the Menzbir marmot, golden eagle, Tien Shan brown bear.
More than 1250 species of plants grow in the park, 47 of which are in the Red Book of Kazakhstan.
The Ugam region contains many cultural, historical and natural attractions. In the village of Kaskasu there are ancient Sak barrows and sacred places, which are associated with many legends and true historical events. History is revived in many preserved traditional craft workshops, where you can buy souvenirs to commemorate your visit to these places.
From here you can make an exciting trip to Turkestan, located 3 hours drive from the village of Cascasu. The grandiose mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi in Turkestan is the most important object for Muslim pilgrims in Kazakhstan and the most remarkable historical building.
Horseback riding in picturesque gorges is a great opportunity to make an exciting journey.
Horses for day and day trips can be rented from the locals, who will kindly provide them for a small fee. Horseback rides are accompanied by trained guides.
For lovers of hiking we offer excursions of different categories of complexity to picturesque places accompanied by professional guides.
Experienced travellers are provided with field equipment for rent, which can be delivered to the location of the field camp.
Cozy and comfortable guest houses in Kaskasu, Nysanbek and Dikhankol villages are always ready to welcome you with great warmth and hospitality.
The locals are happy to introduce you to their daily life and national traditions. Here you will be warmly welcomed and fed with dishes of local cuisine.
How to get there
By train. Several trains run between Almaty and Shymkent every day. A guide will meet you at the station by private car and take you to your destination in 30 minutes.
By bus. Buses depart from Sayran bus station (Almaty) every day from 19.00 to 21.30 and arrive at the bus station in Shymkent at 9.00 am the next day. At the bus station you will be met by a guide by private car and taken to your destination in 30 minutes.
The villages of Kaskasu and Dikhankol are 30 km away from the city of Lenger.
